Default New Arrival

Iíve been meaning to get round to doing a post here, and was reminded of this tonight chatting with another forum member. As is often the case with babies, they arrive and take over everything, at least when newly born!

My first child Addison was born nearly 1 month early at the end of July, heís doing great but naturally Iíve had to prioritise and my workshop time, and the forum have rightly taken a back seat.

Iíll be back and more active once things have settled down. Time being at a premium Iím having to make some tough decisions and part with some of the to-do pile - which will be offered on here of course . I will also have to focus on projects more important to me which will help my efforts a bit. No more work bench scattered with 3 or more projects

Best regards
Adam

Congratulations,
I would say start him on Crystal sets but there may be no am stations by then, so maybe one of those Haynes "advent" calendar radio kits that have been discussed previously on this forum could be a good introduction to the hobby for him in a few years time.

Hope you enjoy being a dad!.

Congratulations! It's hard work but rewarding and fun (some of the time!). Make sure you leave yourself a little bit of time for radios

Then it's Grandchildren, our latest, a 3 year old, takes a fair chunk of our time and energy, but it's priceless.

I’ve said it before but you don’t know the meaning of real pleasure until you have children.... and grandchildren are even better!

Congratulations Adam and to your good lady. Enjoy all your time together, they grow so quickly. When you have a problem just use love and instinct to provide a solution, you will probably be right.

Best wishes,

Peter

I think he may be a bit young to start on solid food. Great news! John.

A bit OT for new parents, but not better, just different. No rights, no responsibilities, but the same love and attachment (and worries!)

A few years ago I met my neighbours son in the street and asked if his first child had arrived, he said, yes it’s all over now back to normal, the mother and child were still in hospital.

Little did he know

Congratulations, enjoy, they don’t stay children long.

Congratulations! My experience (mine are now 11 and 13) was that I noticed I had time to breathe (but not yet think!) when my youngest was 2 and started to talk. If I were you I'd cut right down on projects, keep only one out at a time as you suggest, but keep all your tools and know you'll need something to do when they stop saying Dad Dad Dad. In the meantime get your head around enjoying the Dad Dad Dad because, amazingly, you'll miss it when they stop!

Bill's met Josh, my nephew. Well, I recently became a great uncle! Josh's project in his garage may take a little longer...

Not a new arrival now but only 3. My grandchild was staying recently and his little electric trains stopped working properly it was probably batteries but I used it as a learning experience. So we got he trains out on the bench and got the AVO out to test the batteries, the existing ones delivered about 1.1V on load the new ones 1.55V so after a change he went off very happy with his trains working and I think he understood about the battery!
More lessons to follow.

Thanks for all the comments. I plan to get the little man involved in electronics in a few years

I thought I had some workshop time this weekend to do something fun, but unfortunately my fairly modern Cambridge audio azure 340 amp has gone intermittent one channel so I'll be fixing that. I believe its the speaker protection relay, gah. Well, its still electronics

Congrats, they don't do much at this age and can be demanding and irksome but it won't be long before your looking back whistfully and missing rocking them in your arms. It goes so fast, enjoy every minute.

A few observations, try to make your "no" mean no right from get go, makes life easier later on, keep your promises, forget elephant's, kids have a prodigous memory's and lastly the most valuable thing you can give kids is your time, and love of coarse.

Have fun, Andy.
