Default Pye 1006.

Greetings from the colonies. I am in deep with this one. I am working on a PYE 1006 for the widow of a good friend (not kidding). Bottom line: failure is not an option. The problem: The player works perfectly until it reaches halfway through the second to last song on an LP. It is consistent in that it starts to skip at this point each and every time. Corrective action thus far: I removed the Garrard turntable and cleaned and lubricated the entire under carriage change mechanism. A few adjustments to the tone arm and it worked correctly (for a while). I had ordered a new stylus and installed it and, wouldn't you know, it went right back to doing the same exact thing that it did from the start. I have tried different weight combinations and different arm pivot adjustments to no avail. I am running out of ideas here and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Assuming this is the US version of the Pye 1005, it will have a Garrard Autochanger based on the Garrard "Autoslim" chassis. Changing the stylus will not solve this problem. The trip-pawl will need dis-assembling and cleaning. See in the "Stickies" above how to service this deck.

To save you looking for it, I think the link Edward refers to is

This job will take about 15 minutes, not difficult if you're mechanically minded. It's just a little metal bit in a big cog under the platter, which should flop around freely, but which has become stiff.

Simon's thread tells you how it works. But I think this thread may be the one Edward meant, which tells you how to fix it: https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/showthread.php?t=112708

Thank you - Yes, that is the Sticky I meant. It would be nice if the OP could post a photo of his player as I might be able to give more info on it.
