Default R1155 Receiver Serial Numbers

I have seen the figure 'more than 80,000' for the numbers of R1155 receivers produced.

My R1155B has a serial number of 99532. It was made by Marconi, date unknown, rather than say E K Cole (who appeared to put a date in their inspection stamps). Does this mean in fact nearly 100,000 were produced in total?

Were serial numbers allocated sequentially, or was there perhaps a factory code in there as well?

Does anyone know? It would be interesting to find out.

Cheers,

Peter

Default Re: R1155 Receiver Serial Numbers

I think the numbers of miltary equipment were "to a degree" randomly allocated so that the number an enemy might see woudl give no indication as to production quantities.
