AVO All-Wave Oscillator
I just dragged this out of the garden shed , not knowing too much i dismantled the wrong way about and the transformer was hanging about the the smoothing capacitors was loose . Tried this out and it actually works , could do with a new probe lead set but other wise working.

Re: AVO All-Wave Oscillator
I've got one which I find performs very well for it's age, when I first got it about 25 years ago I took it into work to make a calibration chart using their frequency counter, I threw the chart away when I'd done it as the frequencies measured on the counter were so close to the Avo dial readings.
I presume you have a copy of the Avo instructions for it, if not I can email you a copy. John |

Re: AVO All-Wave Oscillator
I've got my Dad's which he had from sometime during the war. I replaced the Electrolytics in 1974 and checked it on an HP 5245L - as above, so close to spot on it wasn't true.

Re: AVO All-Wave Oscillator
John,
I don't have any instructions so I would welcolm a copy just to know how it works, I will not be using it just as a curiosit . I have some other items in the Shed too, there are two old valve radios and an enormous valve oscilloscope which was working before I stored this in 1990. A Trio JR-310 communications receiver I tried last night also works, needs a drive belt only and cleaning up. I will put this on the site too. |

Re: AVO All-Wave Oscillator
It is interesting that John's AWO has a 'U' shaped brass shield positioned over the open vanes of the tuning capacitor. My unit dated 1944 also has this feature, which I had always assumed was an unofficial modification performed by one of its owners. It looks like it was original after all.
