Manual for very early UHER 4400
Hi,
I've just become the proud owner of a 4400, bought it as "not working" but actually it works pretty well! It's old: never mind it being pre-IC it's doesn't even have headphone and monitor sockets (instead it has two speaker sockets). I think I've now tracked down the circuit diagram, which is stunningly simple, but does anyone know where I might find a service manual? Or are the mechanics pretty similar to the later transistor model? Serial number is 194 339033 There's nothing major wrong, but before I use it for recovering some old tapes I'd just like to get it running as smoothly as I can. Last time I serviced one of these would have been in my BBC days around 1983! (And that would have been an "IC".) Quite looking forward to this. Of course in those days we used to be slightly snobbish about working on the Uhers compared to the Nagras, but I somehow can't quite see me being able to pick up a Nagra for under a hundred quid... Cheers, Andy |

Hello Andy,
What 4400 model is this, is it the 4400 Report S (Stereo) ? Photo would be handy. David |

Re: Manual for very early UHER 4400
I'm now more confused, having found more schematics of different versions it seems that, regardless of era, some have headphone and monitor sockets and some don't
So I now think this is later than I thought it was, perhaps just before the IC version. Anyway, here's what the inside of mine looks like...hoping this looks familiar to someone. Thanks, Andy |

There are a service manual and a service manual supplement currently available on Hi-Fi Engine

The styling suggests late 1960s.

This is another good Uher documentation resource site.

Many thanks! Opened it up a bit last night, bit of corrosion around the battery terminals but otherwise looks in very nice condition inside. Thanks, Andy |

Re: Manual for very early UHER 4400
That is exactly the same document as is on Hi-Fi Engine. Hi-Fi Engine also has the earlier, more comprehensive service manual.

Elektrotanya also has a schematic but drawn in a different format.
