Very old valves, where to get sent to US?
I just got a Marconi 702, which worked a decade or more, on your side of the Pond.
A couple of valves look somewhat iffy, loose bases. I'm told by ourexpert on these things (has a 702, not tested, and a working 705, and also the corresponding HMVs) thatI should order up and keep one of each type. But I have no idea where to get them ... the forums over here have a "sticky" thread with such info. If it's not a prohibited subject, are there "standard" places to "go to" for them, that will ship to the US? If so where? It would be nice to get all of them in one shipment. |

Have you seen this thread?
Loose bases don't mean that the valves are faulty, only that the glue holding the bases in place has failed with age. There are various techniques to glue them back on which you will find described here and on US forums. Valves last a lot longer that people often assume. |

It is very likely that all the valves you need will be found here, from one or more of the forum members, and they would be more than willing to send them to you. With a set this old some of the valves may be scarce, so could take some time to track down.

Langrex/Billington have a good stock of the more common valves and are good to deal with, and as 37 says a few forum members have the odd valve or two tucked away.

If you tell us the numbers, we may find them.

Those may be not exactly right for my set .. I must check. And old reports
say "check the pin numbers". I will know tomorrow. |

I only have MHD4, used. If needed I will test it.

Re: Very old valves, where to get sent to US?
Hi, those valves are mostly mainstream British valves of the period. They should also have several equivalents
MSP4 = SPT4A, MSG/HA, S4VA, AC/SH, SGA1 MHD4 = TDD4, AC/HL/DD, DDT, 11A2 etc I may have some of these if you are stuck, but may take some time to look out and test. Note that some of these valves were available in 5 pin and 7 pin bases. Ed Ed |
