Default AVO 'Stall' at Harpenden & Audiojumble?

Hi All,

I’m trying to find the contact details for a stall holder (or Forum memeber?) who I often see at the Harpenden swapmeets and the Tonbridge Audio Jumble.

This stall sells restored AVO meters and I wondered if the stall holder is interested in restoring and servicing an AVO 8 Mk2, which I've recently been given.

I should be ok for spares as I have three AVO 8’s in various stages of disrepair for 'donor' parts

P.s I seem to remember the stall holder's wife knitting kiddies clothes

Regards
Terry

I think I've seen them once or twice at the Newbury Amateur Radio car boot sale too. If you get stuck you might contact John Howes, who organises Audiojumble, here http://www.audiojumble.co.uk/. He's currently allocating stalls for the next one, in 4 weeks or so, so he'll have all the stallholders' contact details to hand.

Cheers,

GJ

Hi,

Thanks for the replies to the post.

I figure I’ll hang on until Harpenden and the Audiojumble, unless another AVO service engineer or company is suggested.

Regards
Terry.

I know the chap you're talking about - the wife knitting baby clothes was the clincher.

Unfortunately, I don't have his name (it might have been Vernon something), but I think he lives in South Wales (Newport?), so he tends to go to rallies in the South West.

If I, or anyone else (a rally organiser?), sees him, they could send you his contact details. He might have been at the Royal Wootton Bassett auction. There's a Rally in Blackwood (near Newport) on Oct 6th - if I see him there I'll let you know.

It's probably Vernon Henton you are thinking of. He lives in Newport, (South Wales) but he does not use email.

However, I think he is a BVWS member and so should be listed in the handbook.

Terry,

Is there anything about this particular Avo 8 that is making you consider going to a specialist restorer? That may be a costly outcome...

I'm sure PMM will agree that this model is one of the eminently repairable ones, and suitable for the average vintage radio enthusiast to tackle, given a bit of time and care. There is also a huge amount of information and support available on the Forum.

Why not have a go at it yourself?
