Re: Smiths Bakelite clock
I've just fixed my wife's family heirloom clock (a Bravingtons) of a similar type and vintage that kept stopping, using lighter fuel to treat the bearings, followed by lubrication with some proper Swiss clock oil I have had for at least 25 years (AFAIR around £5 for a 1 oz bottle). I applied oil by dipping a needle in the oil to get as small a drop as possible on the end, applying one drop to each exposed end of the bearings. Even a drop seemed to be too much and the surplus had to be wiped away with a tissue.
