Reel to reel query
I have just bought some reel to reel tapes on eBay. They are are OK but I'm struggling to work out what recording mode was used. Playing them back on my stereo 4 track, Philips N4506, tracks 1-4, everything is OK. But selecting 2-3, it's in reverse. And the material playing isn't anything like what's on 1--4. Is it a case of whatever was recorded was done on a mono twin track recorder. It's got me baffled.

Re: Reel to reel query
Mono, twin track, yes.
There will be sound recorded between your tracks on a quarter track machine which your erase head won't get but will add background murmurs. Bulk erasing is a good idea if you can get it done David

Re: Reel to reel query
Toshiba_tony, a half track mono recorder indeed seems to fit your description.
