Don't just change everything wildly. Resistors can be tested in-circuit with the valves cold -- you only need to change any that are out of tolerance. Capacitors in tuned circuits will affect the alignment, and are mostly reliable types anyway. It's worth changing C29 (10nF) as a matter of course, though, as that one can do real damage if faulty.

Replace parts one at a time, and test the set after each one, to be sure you are not introducing new faults by miswiring anything.

If you blanket change parts this thread possibly will turn into a missive and a report of ultimate failure, the destruction of another radio.
Julie is bang on, read some of the other restoration threads and the 'stickies' first.

Some time ago I created a thread in this fórum related to the portuguese model of that set.
Look for " Philips B3LN66U /35 - capacitor replacement advice please".
It was very helpful at the time and the set is now working.
I advise you to read the thread, because there are some information about capacitors types and replacement. I will be available to help you.

Thank you for your help, but I think a coil is missing from these cables.

From what I can make out the left hand end of the ferrite rod antenna has snapped off along with the Medium Wave coil and part of the rods paxolin end support, the said, minus the end support, is dangling on the chassis.

EDIT: The photo's a bit dark but it looks like the rest of the ferrite rod isn't there? Better photo?

Here's what the ferrite rod antenna looks like in the receiver:

A schematic etc for the receiver is on Elektrotanya.

Second thoughts, it looks like the Long Wave coil that's dangling.

I can see one of the coils in the first photo you posted, best bet is to find a complete ferrite antenna replacement or to scrap the receiver, unless you can find/make a Medium Wave coil and a suitable ferrite rod.

You would need a ferrite rod from somewhere that's the same diameter and roughly the same length as the original and a suitable coil former, the coil former's inside diameter must be close to the diameter of the ferrite rod but must be free enough to slide along the ferrite rod, the coil would consist of one continuous close wound single layer winding, you would have to experiment with the wire gauge and the number of turns, sometimes Litz wire was used but it might be ok with single strand stuff, ball park inductance figure...very roughly 150uH as a starting point, the RF tuning needs to track with the oscillator tuning if you want decent results from the receiver, if you have no experience of doing this sort of stuff you might find the whole task difficult or too much to take on.

Somebody might have a scrap chassis of a similar set with a usable ferrite rod aerial. Worth asking; more obscure things have turned up in the past!

OK, lets try to help.

You appear to have the long wave coil and part of the ferrite rod, still attached to two wires.
You probably have no use for long wave where you are?

You can buy ferrite rods off ebay in many sizes, you need one about 200mm or more long, not critical, same diameter as the bit you have.

Make a paper and tape coil former about 75mm long to be a sliding fit on the rod.
Wind about 120 turns of enamel insulated copper wire of a fine gauge, say 36swg about 0.2mm, again not critical, neatly on the former in one layer. If you have some scrap coil wound with a similar wire that will do as long as the insulation is OK.

Connect it to the other wires you have floating, put it together with the long wave coil, slide the coils to within say 20mm of each end of the rod and see what you get. With luck you will get some reception, we can go forward from there.

Thanks for sharing your experience Boater Sam, and the detailed process. I'll make a note for future projects!!
I'm following the thread, but I'll remain quiet until I have something helpful to add to the discussion

Cheers

But not close wound using those figures otherwise the inductance will be much to high and it wont tune properly. The tuning gang is 500pF per section in the receiver.
