Default Ekco ID Please. (ARG168).

The images show a radio chassis and speaker with separate power supply that I was given in my early teens over 50 years ago . It was my workshop radio for many years. I believe that it came from a 1950's radiogram - can anyone identify the model for me.

Thanks,

Mark

Presumably you mean EBC41.

I don't recognise it, but I'm sure you're right. The knobs and speaker covering are classic early 50s Ekco. With push pull output it would have been towards the top of the Ekco range.

ARG168?

https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/ekco_arg168arg_16.html

Odd that it appears to have only four controls, but one may have been mounted at the rear.

Paul

EDIT: Found an almost legible photo of the manufacturer's service data, which I think says that tone, tuning and waveband controls are under the dial, on/off-volume at the front, and loudspeaker switch at the rear.

That certainly fits. I wonder how many people could afford £96 for a radiogram in 1953, presumably with purchase tax on top. You could buy a new car for £390 including tax in 1953.

Thanks - it certainly used to sound excellent! Any other ideas?

No: take a look at the ARG168 manual currently on eBay (three copies with different photos from the same seller). The upper page on view in each listing is a drawing of the chassis layout and it matches the chassis you have.

Thanks to everyone for their help. I bought a copy of the Ekco Service Data. I could not find a copy anywhere so have scanned it and attached it here for any future searchers!
