Exclamation HARPENDEN - DATE CHANGE ! please make a note.

Hello Everyone,

The Advertised BVWS HARPENDEN date of 2nd March is not possible!

The actual date is 9th March (a week later).

Unfortunately this change is out of our control, and despite making bookings back in 2012 and advertising this date for a year or more, we have been informed by Harpenden Halls that the date they have noted is the 9th and it cannot be changed.

Therefore we have no alternative but to go with the 9th of March.

Please update your Calendars, Diaries etc.

A notice to this affect will also appear in the Spring Bulletin (due out in February)
An e-mail will be sent out to every BVWS member we have the e-mail details of.
The BVWS website will also show this date change.

We Sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this causes.

It is as much a surprise to us, as it is to you.

Mike...

I have added a prominent (but cancellable) notice here and will update the BVWS website in the morning.

Please inform anyone you know that is a member of the BVWS and not online.

It's worth mentioning that the 2014 BVWS calendar has the wrong date on the back, giving Harpenden as March 11th which is a Tuesday! Inside the date is marked as 2nd March, so they both need altering to the 9th March.

Regards, Mick.

Remember Harpenden is NOT tomorrow, it's next weekend! I hope with it on here, on the BVWS website, emailed to everyone by the BVWS, in the latest bulletin, and I assume on other forums too, everyone planning to attend will now know.

Are there any plans to publish a last minute catalogue? A quick search suggests that there is usually one for the March event. I can't find anything on the BVWS site.

If Mike sends me one I will make it available. I haven't heard either way.

There definitely won't be any photos because there never is for Harpenden auctions.

Hello,

Could someone please clarify the opening time for the Harpenden meeting.
In the past it used to be 10am but about four meetings ago the slip in the Bulletin changed to "Doors open at 9.30am".
Despite this the doors still opened at 10am except on one occasion when they did open at 9.30am.

Yours, Richard

Hello,

Stall holders entry is at 08:45am for setting up.

General entry is at 09:30am.

Hopefully there will be someone selling wrist bands along the queue from about 09:15 outside to help the speed of entry.

If you are attending, but have not yet renewed your membership, then please make sure you arrive early.

See you all tomorrow,

Mike...

I got home about 90 minutes ago after an excellent but long and tiring day.... although Mike and some others had a longer day as they arrived at about 7am.

I understand the gentleman who was taken unwell and fell banging his head was taken to hospital by the ambulance, but we know no more. I hope he is ok and soon allowed home - and that they find the cause. If anyone knows who he is and is in contact please pass on our best wishes. The least said about the delays by the ambulance service the better, though the two police officers that the hall manager commandeered were excellent.

The auction seemed to go very efficiently from my position on stage. 280 lots in about 3.5 hours is a good rate. I think the £5 minimum bid helps there because we don't waste time trying to get bids of a pound or two, and have a lot less junk in the auctions. I wasn't planning to buy anything but did buy a little basic "MM" set that nobody else seemed to want because it was compact and a bit unusual.

Greg is now officially the Treasurer, though the handover and transition will continue for a few months. Welcome Greg.... no escape now!!!

We got lucky with the weather too, dry and quite warm for the time of year. Overall a great day. Thank you everyone.

Mike is indeed a Member of this Forum. I will pass on your good wishes

We spoke at 17:45 and he had moved from A&E and was waiting to be assessed he was expecting to be kept in.

Fortunately the obvious injury he received due to collapsing onto a large piece of iron mongery was not as I understand a serious problem, the reason for his collapse in the first place was more worrying to us all.

Like to thank the excellent care he received from the gentleman with curly hair who's name we did not get.

If your a member here thank you sir.

Cheers

The gentleman with the curly hair is the new manager of the hall, is a trained first aider, and does seem to be very switched on. I don't know his name but I'm sure someone on the committee will be in contact with him.

I was there when it happen and Mike was clearly in distress as he staggered out of the canteen leaning forward before he fell hitting the table and/or something on it. Please keep us updated. What is his forum username?

I had a very enjoyable long day, I Left Bournemouth at 0600 and didnt return home until 2045.
It was an excellent day weather wise and I felt also that the auction moved swiftly, it certainly makes things easier having four of us on stage showing lots and as Paul said, the minimum fiver bid stops lots of bid lowering and real rubbish entering.

I'd also like to express my best wishes to the gent that fell, I didn't see it happen but he certainly looked distressed, I hope he makes a full recovery.

Cheers.

This Harpenden seemed a lot busier than recent ones.
I arrived at 08.45 and the usual parking spots were already full.

An excellent event, as usual, although, for once, I didnt stay until the end of the auction.

Mike T, when you speak to the poor chap who fell, please pass on our regards and well wishes.

The new hall manager seemed a nice chap. A couple of us were there until nearly 7pm, he remained patient and polite throughout. Fingers crossed!

I sold a few things in the auction and bought a 1940's McMichael 481 'sideboard strainer' radio. And a pile of 1975 Hi Fi News mags from the B&B (don' ask!)

For the benefit of those who left before it was announced, Jeffrey informed us that the B&B raised a record £450 odd for the Museum and wished to thank the members for their support! Great news!

Greg
