I have tryed the plug and the on off switch and the meter still shows the number 1 on the left side.
Not too sure if I have the red and black probes in the correct order.

No, the meter probes should be in COM (black, you have that one right) and V/Ohms/mA (red, this is the socket immediately above COM, where you have nothing plugged in at the moment). You can check you have it right by touching the 2 probes together with the meter set to the ohms range when the display should change to 0 (or something close to it).

Put the red in the correct socket and touched the probes together on all the ohms range settings and it is still displays 1 on the left had side.

Just to confirm you have the 2 leads in the bottom 2 sockets (furthest from the display).

Does this meter have an internal fuse? I think you would see this result if it had blown. Good meters have an (expensive) ceramic cartridge fuse in them. Cheap meters get away with a normal glass cartridge fuse. Replace the fuse with one of the same type and rating.

Sorry for late reply, both leads are in the bottom 2 sockets.

I've taken the meter apart and it looks like the fuse is blown (glass fuse) I have ordered some more and have also ordered a new fuse for the player.

As soon as I have them I will let you know the results.

Thanks for all your help with this, it is much appreciated.
