Goblin 854 Teasmade.
I have a 2 Goblin teasmades model No: 854. One of them has been working well for the last four years since I bought them but today has stopped. Light comes on, alarm works but the clock doesn't. I read previously that a judicious bit of lubrication can free the mechanism up but my question is how do I actually get into the clock? I am assuming the small round attachment on the back of the clock is the electric motor, is that correct. It is the clock mechanism I need to access. Any simple explanations out there? Cheers.

Re: Goblin 854 Teasmade.
It’s worth checking first that the motor coil hasn’t burned out. These motors are inherently very reliable, but an open-circuit stator is terminal. With the lamp and kettle off, simply measure the DC resistance between the live and neutral pins of the plug. A reading of 5 to 11 kilohms is normal, lower suggests shorted turns, higher (infinity) suggests a burnt-out coil.
If using a digital multimeter, use a high ohms range to avoid confusion.

Cheers for that...I'll give it a go later and see the result. Are the motors available/repairable/replaceable ?

Re: Goblin 854 Teasmade.
Sorry! Correction: I just checked my working 854 and it measures 18.9 kilohms.
Not sure about spare motors, but on-line suppliers like eSpares may be able to help. Try a Google search first. Can you please post a picture of the motor once you’ve got the back off?

Re: Goblin 854 Teasmade.
Just found this on the web. There is a large 12k resistor in series with the motor, it’s worth checking that too as the motor itself might be OK. Otherwise, these motors appear to be made of Unobtainium...

Re: Goblin 854 Teasmade.
When the clock of my mum's Teasmade stopped working, the cause turned out to be hardened grease on the motor's spur gear. Picking out the hardened grease with a sewing needle and re-greasing fixed it.

Re: Goblin 854 Teasmade.
You might find the "drop of oil" sorts it. The clock motor just lifts away if yoiu undo the two obvious fixing screws. Getting at the screws may be awkward, it was on my 860. Some of the info in here:
https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=163647 may help.....

Re: Goblin 854 Teasmade.
Unscrewed the motor and no stickiness or grease evident. Shaft turns freely.

Re: Goblin 854 Teasmade.
5.5 what? Ohms, Kilohms or Megohms?

Re: Goblin 854 Teasmade.
5.46k or 5460R then. I'm assuming 'H' indicates that the HOLD Key has been pressed.
Does your meter have the 12k series resistor seen in post #6?

Re: Goblin 854 Teasmade.
Would the difference in power supply come into the equation. I am in France so we have 230 V and 50 Hz.

Re: Goblin 854 Teasmade.
There is no significant difference in mains characteristics. Either there's an error in your measurement or you have a wiring fault. You should be measuring at least 12k.

Re: Goblin 854 Teasmade.
Measure across the mains plug, across the resistor and across the motor.
