Ever Ready torch
Picked up this torch exactly same as this recently, on side mine is marked F Tandem & Co Ltd 1919 military broad arrow 534746
On battery cover "Ever Ready" regd made in England. Anyone know anything about this? I'm assuming 1919 is date? I've tried D cells, although they appear to fit they don't allow switch to work once installed as battery impedes downward movement of lever to press on lamp housing. Were D cells used in 1919? |

Re: Ever Ready torch
According to Wikipedia the U2 (D type)was first introduced in 1898 as the first Flashlight battery (cell). It’s possible that the size of the battery has changed by a small amount over the years, this is noticeable in other batteries. A search of the forum will bring results of early transistor sets having problems with modern battery sizes.
