Re: Studer B67 faults initial inspection.
Thanks,
By the way.. The tension arm is fine now.. The knurled lock nut had worked it's way completely off and the spring was not returning the arm to a point where the micro switch was being activated.. now it is fine.. Please does anybody know how to open the VU meters to change the bulbs?? Is it really a case of wiggling them off?? |

I fear so...either be very careful or live with dim VUs...and try lubricating the capstan motor before you go for new bearings.

Re: Studer B67 faults initial inspection.
Yes I think it's related to the inductive pickup attached to the capstan motor. I'd call it a whistle. I think on later models they mounted the pickup more flexibly to reduce the whistle's intensity.
I doubt it's motor bearing noise which would probably have a rougher, less musical sound. Even so, as Ted says, important to oil the front plain bearing. |

I think that whistle is part of the Revox charm!

Okay.. I'll oil the capstan bearing.. The noise is not really audible.. but in a totally silent room you can hear the machine is 'on' .. at the two lower speeds it is all but silent. .

Re: Studer B67 faults initial inspection.
On another note.. I managed to gently remove one of the covers off one of the VU meters..
Can't see the bulb! !! Is the bulb behind the opaque plastic scale??.. If so I think I have to dismantle the VU panel from behind. .which is quite a bit of work as the VU meters are mounted beneath the PCBs... Last edited by Nickuk99; 27th May 2017 at 11:06 am. |

Re: Studer B67 faults initial inspection.
It is very unlikely that Studer would have fitted a VU meter where you have to take the front off to change a bulb!
