Digeec Nixie Clock

Hi.
I recently repaired an HMV radiogram for a chap in Somerset, he was so pleased that he sent me a Digeec Nixie Clock to repair. This Clock was the brainchild of his dad in 1971, the clock (the first digital clock) was displayed at the Basle Watch & Clock fair in 1972. The Clock retailed for £199. It was a simple repair, mostly corroded print and dry joints. As the clock is rare now although he personally has many other non working ones I think I will ask him if he has a spare I could fix for me to keep in payment for this one as it is really nice.

That's really nice, I'll look forward to seeing a photo of it in it's case. I can't see the point of counting tenths of seconds though!

What a super looking clock!
I have a nice Nixie DVM in my collection (as pictured in Roband Power Supply thread) I know it is a DVM, but it was sold as a power supply

I made one a few (12) years ago, it uses the mains as a reference, it is interesting to see the deviation from GMT througout the day.

The rule of collectables seems to be if it's useful, no. If it's useless and ugly, yes. It's useful AND attractive, so it should be

This one is mains locked too, and it does vary slightly throughout the day although it is accurate over a 24 hour period, which I believe is correct as the grid should be on average 50hz per 24 hour period.

Yes, mains referenced clocks are accurate but not very precise, as an approximation mine (the Nixie) is within 30 seconds of GMT/UTC compared with my Magneta (pendulum) master clock which is locked to MSF. BTW the master clock runs the house clocks, saves loads of time when we change from GMT to BST.

Is the circuitry on Veroboard or is that something else? I imagine it will be worth something as new clock kits using Russian Nixies are available on eBay, and old is better as we know!

No its built on proper custom built PCB's and very nicely done too.
I believe that a few hundred were made.

Yes - looking closely at the photo I realise the Veroboard has nothing to do with the clock! Does it use TTL devices as in another thread?
I've see a few Nixie clocks in those arty gallery shops where there appears to be an extra zero on the prices, so obviously very trendy.

Yes it does use TTL Chips. it's parcelled up now and will be posted back to Somerset tomorrow, but I am getting a few more to look at, hopefully they will be quickies too!

In danger of drifting off-topic, but when you say "Magneta (pendulum) master clock which is locked to MSF", is that a Magneta-built PO36 fitted with a synchroniser?

Indeed it is a PO36, locked to MSF by pulsing the impulse magnet a weeny bit every two seconds from a circuit with an MSF receiver and a PIC on it. It stays in sync all the time. It also has a synchroniser that is pulsed by the same citcuit once a day, it never has anything to do though.

That's cheating! I have a PO36 with a synchroniser (not yet running - too many radio and clock projects!), but I want to be able to see the synchroniser working in response to the MSF signal.
