Default Recent auction in Leeds

Hi. Not sure if this is the correct section to put this on. I managed to enter one of my radios for sale in Leeds recently, an EKCO U159. Sadly it only reached £10 sale, the majority of the money went on tax and commission.
Wonder if there are are other specialized auctions in my area that cover radios?
Cheers

If you want the best price then sell on an ebay auction, much bigger audience and lower charges. Most people would collect from an auction but they will post, you'll get a better price on ebay if you can post the item.

Try eBay, collection only and put your minimum price as a starter. I am not aware of any specialised auctions in this area.

I was at an auction of house hold goods etc, in Huddersfield, recently.. the reason being a "Silent key's" effects were being sold.....Most of the items went for very reasonable prices, especially the Watkins Johnson Receiver at £1500. There were quite a few amateurs in the room, and were willing to buy. Watching "Bargain hunt" gives you an idea of the level of interest and prices..... some days it can be good.. others .. poor.

You could take a look at thesaleroom.com They have a large number of auctioneers on their books and you can get an idea of prices and what sort of sets are being offered around the UK and Continent. Try a search on "radio" and you may be surprised by how many sets are being sold.

Cheers

Hello Mike. I recall that you posted last November re a change in personal circumstances and felt you needed to dispose of your collection. You asked some of the same questions and got a number of responses. Fortunately you later reported that there wasn't the same urgency. Lots of suggestions were made to try and help but as indicated, there have been changes for everyone in the vintage/radio market and elsewhere.

Frankly enthusiasts are now getting older and off loading [one way or another]. That's fairly inevitable in the nature of things but combined with other economic circumstances, including Auction Houses trying to stay in business, times may be changing. On the other hand it's never that consistent. A "high end" auction here in the south recently seemed to be very successful. Sets that I struggled to obtain a decade ago are now relatively easy to find at low prices. As others have said about auctions, it always depends on the day-there is no certainty! It's a form of gambling really, much better engaged in if you can afford to lose out! I know you are very well regarded re your knowledge base of 50's electronics and Joe Meek so I hope you can resolve things. We corresponded about the Clavoline [add on piano keyboard] at one point. A business might cut it's losses and sell up but that's not our first instinct as we are collectors.

Hi Everyone.
Many thanks for your replies.
Yes I agree that it depends upon the day of sale. There is not a great deal of urgency but it would be great to thin some of it down a bit (i.e some radios that I did not value as much) I have never had much luck with Ebay. Some time back I sold some car radio service manuals but did not really get the price that I wanted.
Also, I certainly can no longer afford to buy more radios or keyboards as I am now retired. It would be great though if I could find a better place to actually display my collection of vintage radio receivers
Not sure if the auction had internet bidders.
Regards
Mike
