JVC 3060UK Tape deck running slow, how can I increase the speed?
Hi all, I am having some issues with my tape deck. I don't know how to identify it but images are attached. I am assuming it was made in 1967 because that's what it says on the motor, it looks likes all made of heat treated steel. The motor is quite substantial but I don't see any adjustments on it for the mechanical governor. I don't think any of the pot's inside change the speed. I have attached a picture of the motor, do I have to take it apart for the speed adjustment? I am not aiming for accuracy, I have a prerecorded tape and I am going to compare it to the same song on YouTube. I have a feeling that the screw located on the aluminium base of the motor would be it but I don't want to just go ahead and turn it in case it's holding something important together.
TLDR: The motor is running slow, I want to know how to adjust the governor of the motor. I have suspicions that the screw on the side of the base "cap" is it. Can anyone confirm/correct me? Thanks -Nathan |

Usually through the covered small hole on the motor, thats just a membrane type seal for dust etc, a small jewellers screwdriver will do, I tend to wrap some heatshrink or insulation tape on the screwdriver blade so it doesn’t short out on the motor casing.

You can adjust it but normally it doesn't go out. More likely slow speed is from some mechanical issue such as a binding bearing.

When was the belt last changed? In my younger days I spent ages messing around with the speed controls on cassette motors until I realised that the belts stretching was the real problem.

If it's running slow, the belt may be too tight, in which case you'll damage the bearings if you continue to use it like that.

That date is 1976. As said check belt is not too slack. Looks okay but who knows? A slight tweak of the pot may be all that's needed.
