Great site - thanks Niel. It brings a lump to the throat. I never considered I was homeward bound until I switched from sending messages to Portishead on HF, to GLD when about 500 miles out. John.

In 1980,I took the morse code test for my full amateur radio licence at a costal radio station at Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire. I think it was a Post Office site, but i've no idea what it was used for.

Cheers

Aub

Took my morse test in Dorchester but previously they had been held in a Somerset radio station, Highbridge would it have been?

Humber Radio, GKZ, which worked ships in the southern North Sea on MF and 2 MHz.

Took my test there in '66.

Hello Peter,
Yes, you are quite right, Highbridge in Somerset was the GPO coastal radio station.
Took my morse test there in Jan 1976.
Regards.

Took mine at Portpatrick in June, '84.

'Would you like a practice go before the test'?

'Ohh... Yes please! Receive first.'

'Ok, lad... Now send me some.'

'Right. You've passed!'

A great way to put one at ease after whistling every number plate and road-sign in Morse on the 100-mile drive round!

Thanks George, I thought it was.

Russell

Mine worked something like that, they gave you a piece of paper for 'practise' removed it before the test started but I thought the test piece sounded familiar, it was the one we had been practising with.
