Certainly looks very late BSRish - 1973? There should be a red BSR sticker on the underside of the motor plate. Very budget built. Edward

Have two DEFIANT (Co-op) record players with UA14 decks but one appears just slightly different in that the arm on one has no clip but clips into the arm holder, the other has a purpose metal clip to hold. Also I noticed another UA14 on another player that has Monarch. So are there 3 variations or just 2

I don't ever recall seeing these with an added "Monarch" badge. Obviously there is the earlier and, apparently, mechanically identical, UA12.

Hi there,
Thought I may be able to help contribute. I have an early Pye Black Box with this BSR Autochanger fitted but I cannot seem to find any pictures of it online. Perhaps some of you good people can help identify it. (UA4?)

That's a really early Black Box from 1954. It's a BSR UA5 autochanger in there. I only ever saw them made at Lowestoft in 1955 with the follow-on, BSR UA6. The original BSR TC4 cartridge has been replaced by what looks like a later Ronette type.

Very rare and interesting content. Indeed, I never knew the UA5 was quite as early as January 1953, nor the UA6 from as early as February 1954.

The UA5 was the first BSR autochanger, designed by Lawrence Guest. Apparently most were badged Decca as it was they who proposed manufacture of changers to BSR.

I played a big part in making these decks and it brings back memories.The second one ln the pictures had only a few parts, I think six if I am right.Those were given away in the USA with Cornflakes. We made all the parts that go in to the changers along with the main plates and turntables. I still come across some bits I have in my garage when I am searching for something else.

I'm dealing with 1963 Fidelity record player with a deck identical to the very first photo on the first post on this very informative thread (see photo attached). I can see that you press and rotate the plastic insert at the centre of the turntable clockwise, but how on earth do you then remove the turntable from the deck?? This one appears to be stuck!!

After you've removed the plastic insert, you remove the circlip holding the turntable onto the bearing. If it is stuck, use heat from a hairdryer to warm up the bearing then lift the turntable off.
