Hi what does anyone know of the HITACHI SDT-900M deck and the direct drive on the Sony Music System. Model no HMK 80B.

Re: Sony Music System. Model no HMK 80B
They're both high end music centres from the late 70s. Performance doubtless equal to many separates systems of the time.

Re: Sony Music System. Model no HMK 80B
The HMK-80 is a very fine unit indeed. The HMK-77 is essentially the same thing, only the FM preset radio tuning arrangements differ. A 'B' at the end (e.g. HMK-80B) means a black fascia, worth holding out for if you can as it looks a lot better.
The turntable is much the same as the PS-11 / PS-22 type (e.g simple direct drive but no magnadisc ring and no quartz lock) and the cassette mechanism is the rather clever moulded plastic one that went into loads of mid range Sony decks around this time, (TC-138 etc). Random failure of the small fusible resistors is a source of baffling faults in both of these models. |
