Bakelite repair for a largish hole.
I thought I might share this method as it worked quite well for me. I ground up a damaged GPO ear cap piece by drilling into with a large drill, 12mm I think, and saved the "Bakelite dust". I then mixed this is in with a quick setting resin glue and pasted it over the hole (see pic). I then sprayed this with a little gloss black.
The pictures show the filled hole, one taken with a flash and one without. Ok, it may not be totally bob on, but I think for the casual observer it's not bad, certainly acceptable for the back of the phone. |

Good tip, certainly better than a big hole! Similar techniques can be used to match wood colour when using filler, mix in a bit of sawdust.

I have used my wife's granite kitchen pestle and mortar to grind stuff finely for colouring Araldite.

I have used a similar technique but I have filed my donor part using various grades of files and then swept up the filings.
