Re: Cossor 549 Melody Maker
The Manufacturer's service manual is available here:
http://www.service-data.com/section....9-melody-maker Unfortunately it doesn't show a drive cord layout.

Re: Cossor 549 Melody Maker
Many thanks camtechman. I though that might be the case, have now worked it out. Have you any idea what I can use as drive cord. I'm thinking maybe the cord on a ceiling light pull switch might be OK.

Re: Cossor 549 Melody Maker
Fishing line seems to be popular, pull cord would be too thick I'd think.

Re: Cossor 549 Melody Maker
I use nylon cord robbed from a childrens kite!
It is pretty strong, and looks identical to the original cord, and is the same diameter. I have found fishing line slips after a while, it is also too slim for most sets. Mark |

Re: Cossor 549 Melody Maker
Mono filament line tends to slip.
I have used various cords but now use waxed whipping twine, not too stretchy and cost effective, available in various colours in good chandlers. Mike |

Re: Cossor 549 Melody Maker
Fishing tackle shops generally have a wide selection of lines including stuff that looks like straightforward braided thread or twine. ISTR it's sold as "leader" or something similar.
Have a look, you've nothing to lose.....

You can usually buy the "real thing" on Ebay at a very reasonable rate

Re: Cossor 549 Melody Maker
Perhaps my old restoration thread could be of use to you;
https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...ad.php?t=78030 There is a picture of the chassis playing outside of the case, you should be able to see the cord if you look closely. Cheers, Dave. |
