David (WW) is talking about hash induced on broadcast receivers by the switching transients in the bridge rectifier, not the hum you can hear at higher volume settings.
I’ve noticed it can be surprising to some that hum wasn’t completely designed out of sets of a certain era, including, just about, this one.
