Default Wireless comes to Downton Abbey...

... but did anyone spot the maker's name? It looked like Gecophone to me. Nice bit of oscillation from the reaction circuit. Those were the days.

It's a Gecophone BC2001 (Smokers Cabinet)

Only caught a glimpse when SWMBO pointed it out so I couldnt be sure.

Cheers

My wife said 'I suppose that isn't authentic?' when it came on, as is usually the case when some sort of vintage radio in on TV. I had to reply that I don't really know 1920's sets, but I could see a lead acid battery and a separate horn speaker and frame antenna so suggested that it probably wasn't too badly researched.

My wife is programmed to hit "pause" and call me whenever she spots a radio set on a period drama, and this arrangement gave me the chance to look closely at the set concerned, albeit in standard definition.

It looked pretty authentic to me, apart from the 'sound' from the set, which came up accompanied by mains hum. But all-in-all it was well depicted.
