Hi everyone. I'm new to the site and hoping for a bit of advice. I have a Commodore PET 2001-8 and want to know how best to sell it on. Any idea of value?

Working Commodore PET 2001-8 with 32K extension. Astonishingly good condition.
+3040 Series dual floppy drive
+CBM Model 2023 printer
+Manuals for all

The usual advice with things like this is to look at auction sites and see what they have actually sold for, as opposed to what price is being asked for them. In the condition it's in with working matched accessories and all manuals present, I would have thought you'd be looking at in the very high hundreds or into four figures (GB Pounds).

You have a rarity there in a suriving first-generation PET, with the un-ergonomic "chiclet" keyboard and the white screen, dating from 1977. 4K RAM was fitted as standard, expandable to 32K; a BASIC interpreter was ready to use in ROM and the CPU was a 6502 running at 1 Mhz. Notice that the font used on the front of the machine is v.similar to that employed in the film of the same name. The machine's model number is no coincidence either.

These are v. collectable nowadays, especially in working order, so your best bet to reach the largest market will be eBay. As to value, well, as ever with eBay that depends on how many keen bidders you get, but I'd have thought a few hundred squid might be typical. I'd probably start it fairly low and put a reserve on it if I was selling it.

I see it has the upgraded BASIC too (it shows "### Commodore Basic ###" rather than "*** Commodore Basic ***") which is required to work with the disk drive (the original ROM set had a bug in the IEEE 488 routines).
The disk drive is valuable too, so on a good day you should be looking to 4 figures for the whole lot assuming it is all working.
Shame I don't have the money I'd take it in a heartbeat if I did!
