Neither are important at this stage, leave them for later.

So, take the blue wire and connect it to the new transmitter?

No, the special polish I referred to previously will clean it as well as polishing.

Hang on! That's not a "red 21A transmitter" at all, it's a 4T receiver

It's not, strictly speaking, but there's a lot in common.

Also, GEC would have used their own labels for non-GPO models.

Frankly, I'd use whichever you like the look of. It's not like it's a permanent modification anyway.

Nick.

OK, great!

It's not just a drop-in replacement though. You need to do some minor modifications.

I'll post some pics after the weekend, if that's OK.

Nick.

Looks like if I shave the notches off round the edge it`ll fit.

Ah, Just realised your handset isn't a "normal" GPO Bakelite one, but a more modern looking one.

So you might well be right.

The guts of the transmitter (black box with two screw terminals) can be removed in seconds by flicking off the front face of the red case with your fingers. This makes it smaller, or at the very least, allows you to modify the red case without risk of damage to the works.

Then, connect it up; you may need to make up a short insulated wire to connect it to the terminals in the handset (where the original had a prong going into the central terminal).

N.

Right wasn`t enough to just shave the notches but managed to get it to fit.

Does this look OK? Tried it wired both ways round and it doesn`t seem to matter either way. You can hear your own voice through the receiver though, I guess that`s what the green things for?

Help in what sense? I'm not really sure what's wrong.

Cheers,
Nick.

You mentioned those two things in the picture earlyer and said we`de get to them later..

When talking on the phone you can hear your voice in the receiver, the speaker bit. I guess that`s not normal and adding one of those two bits in the picture will help. Is this correct and how do I add them?

Thanks for your help.
