Speaking of all things grimy, here's a cassette player before and after I soaked its case last week! It had had a cup of coffee spilt onto it then probably been stored in a dusty greasy kitchen for years.

A soaking in a basin of hot soapy water and scrubbing with an old toothbrush and sponge gave the results you see.

If it had not been a 4 track 2 speed imported unit I had never seen before, it wouldn't have been touched with a bargepole!

Returning to the Japanese kit. Another fan here. I have several beautiful late '70s Pioneer cassette units and a tuner, and I still regret selling my Yamaha tuner amp when I moved away in the late 90s.
