Harpenden Auction/Swapmeet Sunday 25th September 2016
So now that summer is fading in to the past and the dark nights are rolling in, why not stock up the workshop with some projects to keep you occupied for all those rainy weekends/evenings to come?
Yes, it's Harpenden time again, on Sunday 25th September. Doors open 9.30am, (stallholders 9.00am) £5 entry on the door. Many stalls selling vintage Radio/TV/Spares/Audio/Ephemera. Bring and Buy stall, it will be in the main hall this time, not in the foyer. Cafeteria snacks available throughout the day. Auction starts at 1pm, 300 lots! Members only but may bring one guest (please don't abuse this condition or it will be withdrawn) For directions see: http://www.harpendenpublichalls.co.u...ns-and-access/ Here's a video of a recent Harpenden event as a reminder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1i2UZBn0pvg See you there...

Re: Harpenden Auction/Swapmeet Sunday 25th September
Hi All,
I am currently working on the Auction catalogue for Sunday and do not expect it to be available until THURSDAY evening. I will let everyone know when I have sent it up to Paul for the BVWS website. Mike...

Re: Harpenden Auction/Swapmeet Sunday 25th September
A note for those travelling to Harpenden by car from the north tomorrow. The M1 will be closed in both directions between junctions 11 and 12 from 8pm tonight (Saturday) until 2pm tomorrow (Sunday) for the demolition of an overbridge.
More details at: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/m...m1-link-scheme Good luck! best regards ... Stef |

Re: Harpenden Auction/Swapmeet Sunday 25th September
I've sorted a number (11) of medium sized boxes of valves out for the Bring and Buy tomorrow, from the CEMT stores - we are having to downsize our storage requirements.
The idea is that we (CEMT) have an idea what we want per box, anything over and above this figure can be donated to BVWTM funds - so please be generous! If this proves to be a good thing, then I will sort more out for future events. When is the best time to get them into the hall? I wouldnt mind avoiding the usual scrum Thanks Sean

Re: Harpenden Auction/Swapmeet Sunday 25th September
Stef, thanks really good to know this, but the gov. link gives 'page not found' and not found it with a search. Not knowing the area, I am wondering if there will be a signposted diversion, ie, how the heck to get there that doesn't take an extra hour and risk getting lost !?

Re: Harpenden Auction/Swapmeet Sunday 25th September
Sorry about the link. If you google 'm1 closures' you'll get to the information. It says there will be diversions, but who knows how much delay this will add to the journey?

Re: Harpenden Auction/Swapmeet Sunday 25th September
I guess it won't be bad in the morning. Just hoping the signing will be generous. I should think turning off through Dunstable would do it. I remember one dark wet November night a diversion on the A5. I came out after half an hour on minor roads at the same point I left!

I will be there from 0800 and with luck we can start taking stuff in from sellers by 0830 or before. But you won't be able to get into the hall itself until 0930. See you there Jeremy

Re: Harpenden Auction/Swapmeet Sunday 25th September
The M1 roadworks caused delays for those of us travelling from the south too, as it was reduced to one lane as it approached J9 (presumably then a single lane up to J10) causing long queues, and I was crawling through that for about 20 minutes.
Turnout seemed to be fairly normal for a Harpenden event though, so it looks like those who wanted to attend were able to get there despite the M1! The bring-and-buy stall was doing brisk business all morning and other stalls appeared to have a steady amount of trade. The auction was just over 260 lots and Mike got through them at a good pace. Only about half a dozen unsold (I'm not surprised the remains of that TV near the end didn't sell!). Prices were generally as expected and fairly typical for Harpenden too. Don't forget the special auction at RWB in a fortnight, there will be about 400 lots and from what I've heard there is a lot of really good items. Catalogue and photos will be online as soon as Mike has them ready. |

Re: Harpenden Auction/Swapmeet Sunday 25th September
I saw the matrix signs for the M1 closure and delays whilst driving up the M4 and decided to go up through St Albans. Its only the next junction off the M25 and takes you straight into Harpenden, worth remembering for next time there is a delay.

Re: Harpenden Auction/Swapmeet Sunday 25th September
Thanks to saddlestone-man (Stef) for the advanced warning, I had a plan to get there avoiding the M1 which worked really well - until Dunstable. I now hate Dunstable. Big time. Came back to brum via Tring/Ayelsbury/Bicester which was a lot better.
BTW, anyone who claims they saw me carrying a tr*ns*st*r TV and two Grundig tr*ns*st*r radios are liars and I'll sue 'em for slander Did pick up a comic too - a booklet from I rekon ~1951 by Ediswan, apparently trying to explain how brilliant their round CRT's were ... its a very thin book! I was with you when you bought one of those Grundig TRANSISTOR sets Jon, so you can't deny it!
Though I bought a Pure Evoke DAB radio from the same stall, which is probably an even more hideous crime! |

Re: Harpenden Auction/Swapmeet Sunday 25th September
Haha, you did me a favour there, relieving the temptation- especially as the big Grundig sand sets had come down to "null pounds" at that point! Impressively big and impressively 'seventies (think?). Hope they turn out to be goers- I've always liked that type of set, but there's no way I could justify any more of that sort of real-estate gobbler.
