Lampex radio?
Does anyone have any information on sets made by Lampex in the mid 1930s please. I am particularly looking for a circuit for a 1935/36 TRF which may have the model number SG 3/2 it uses valves 77, 78, 42, 80, thank you all.

Re: Lampex radio?
With that valve (tube) lineup it sounds American.

Re: Lampex radio?
Agreed G6Tanuki, but the set has MW & LW , British components, Tungsram valves, a mains transformer only rated 200/240v & with a dial showing European stations. The manufacturing address, in 1936, is London, I can find little else about this firm, construction is if reasonable quality but looks a bit homespun it is a bit of a mystery!

Is your set anything like this: http://www.motors23.co.uk/si141649465038.html
I have seen a 'tombstone' version some time ago, Lampex were a small manufacturer based in London during the 1930's. Mark |

Re: Lampex radio?
Well spotted Mark, that is the very set. It does not look quite like that as the speaker fret is complete but everything is as your picture!

Re: Lampex radio?
The Tombstone set had the same dial, so there may only have been two models made by Lampex.
I would guess the circuit will be quite conventional, so restoration without a circuit diagram should not be too difficult. As the valves used are of American origin, it is possible the circuit could also be american. Please post some pictures of the chassis, particularly the underside. Mark |

Re: Lampex radio?
Thanks Mark, I have removed the BOI main smoothing block for restuffing & also some odd bodges which were obvious, mine has not seen mains for over 50 years but fortunately has been stored in a dry attic. The TRF circuit is indeed simple, & I will post a picture when the correct components are back in.

Re: Lampex radio?
The set is now running well, here are a couple of pictures, a boon with a TRF, frequency response over 10kc when driven by a wideband pantry transmitter.
