Default Hallicrafters SX-28 rectifier.

Hi all I recently acquired SX-28 which after changing a fair few capacitors and resistors' is working well but in place of the 5Z3 rectifier is a 5U4G the mains transformer is the original one running on 115v as is the choke . Will the 5U4G be okay to leave as is or should I fit the original 5Z3 with a new base . Thoughts gentleman cheers Chris.

Hi Chris, they look pretty similar electrically , both big beasts.
Main difference is the base heater ratings (main worry ) are both 5V @ 3A

Hi Ed . Thanks for your reply based on that I may as well leave it there the set has been on most of the day the mains transformer doesn't run hot .

Hi Chris, that's fine.
It would pay you to get something like the Wireless World valve data listings, not much and has all the relevant data to help making subs for hard to get valves

A trawl around valve data suggests that a 5U4G is essentially a 5Z3 on an International Octal as opposed to a UX4 base, so it should be fine.
