Default SAQ

Hi,

Just a heads up that the Alexanderson alternator transmitter on 17.2 kHz
will be on the air again on 16 November at 1600 UTC.

Kind regards

Thanks Dave, for the reminder. Well timed as I am re-erecting my EFLW this morning, after the recent storms. I will be listening on my recently acquired Siemens E566 745/E310. If it doesn't hear anything I will switch back to old faithful Marconi Mercury!

Thanks for that. I've made a few mods to my loop system here so I'm looking forward to another test.

Thanks for the heads up, I don't currently have a receiver that will go that low but will listen out on an online SDR.

Transmission successfully received using the Twente SDR in Holland, a short section of the transmission recorded. Did any of you guys with VLF capability and large enough aerial systems receive the transmission?

Hi Alan,

Was unable to hear it all here. Very high noise level and sadly only a short wire antenna.
Many thanks for the sample of the transmission.

Kind regards

Yes, good copy here down in Cornwall, using a HB 1M active loop.

I didn't get my long wire back up in time. I did try listening, using my 10m vertical, but heard nothing. It looks like aerial erecting weather off and on today, so will try to get the long wire finished.

Alan, thanks for the attachment, I would liked to have listened, but have nothing that goes down that far.
I have read a fair bit about this TX, and also watched the video, and found it incredibly interesting.
Hopefully I can be cured !

Very poor results here in Manchester, about 10 dB down on last time. This was the same on both my aerials. I have two friends in Wales who reported similar results. The nearby signals clustered around 20 kHz were as good as ever.

Hi,

Just received an email that SAQ will be on air again on Christmas Eve,
24 December with the start up and tuning at 0730 UTC and message
transmission at 0800 UTC.

I really must try and get some sort of antenna sorted for this one, - the
November transmission was a complete blank for me!

Kind regards

If you only have an HF receiver, this upverter is easily built on stripboard;

Hi,

Just received an email from the Alexanderson Association, to the effect that
the Xmas Eve transmission will not now take place, due to the possibility of
Covid amongst the staff.

Kind regards and Happy Xmas,

Dave G0ELJ

Sorry, just doubled with MicKM3FOR's message.
