Hallicrafters SX-28 rectifier.
Hi all I recently acquired SX-28 which after changing a fair few capacitors and resistors' is working well but in place of the 5Z3 rectifier is a 5U4G the mains transformer is the original one running on 115v as is the choke . Will the 5U4G be okay to leave as is or should I fit the original 5Z3 with a new base . Thoughts gentleman cheers Chris.

Hi Chris, they look pretty similar electrically , both big beasts.
Main difference is the base heater ratings (main worry ) are both 5V @ 3A Ed |

Hi Ed . Thanks for your reply based on that I may as well leave it there the set has been on most of the day the mains transformer doesn't run hot .

Hi Chris, that's fine.
It would pay you to get something like the Wireless World valve data listings, not much and has all the relevant data to help making subs for hard to get valves Ed |

Re: Hallicrafters SX-28 rectifier.
A trawl around valve data suggests that a 5U4G is essentially a 5Z3 on an International Octal as opposed to a UX4 base, so it should be fine.
