Default TRIO R-1000 Display chips; MSM5524RS vs MSM5525RS

Hi,
The MSM5524RS and MSM5525RS display chip types are both mentioned in threads with regards to Trio R-1000 display problems. I have searched around but can not find the difference.

Does anyone know if the above two types are interchangeable as the R-1000 I have here is fitted with the 24RS version but I have a MSM5525RS device here.

Sorry just noticed I got the title wrong and cant change it should be MSM in all cases
Pete

There is some data at https://worldradiohistory.com/UK/Mis...-Catalog-2.pdf pages 17-23. There is a difference in whether they have stopwatch functions, but I'm at work at the moment and can't have a proper read.

Martin's reference is where I was also looking. I still have the Ambit catalogues.

The devices are different. The 5524 has a short wave counter option upto 39.999 MHz, with multiplexed digit outputs. You need this feature for the R1000, as it measures the VCO frequency minus 47.6 MHz. The 5525 only has AM and FM displays, with direct segment outputs. And the pinouts are very different.

Upgrades could be internal or external. Google is your friend. Also see https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=178068
