Default Target Generating Chassis

I bought this at the car boot three weeks ago. I am assuming that it is a control circuit for a missile targeting system.
Made in 1954 it contains eleven valves and an assortment of passive components, the capacitors carry the crows foot symbol.
Twelve sockets on the front panel allow monitoring of valve parameters and a switch marked "Bearing Gate" can be set to Test or Normal. Two pots allow for minimum and maximum range adjustment.
Identical attached labels refer to "Tiger Establishment" and a rubber stamp for "Surveying Agent, 11 Feb 1976".
I am interested to find out what this panel does. Possibly it is part of a target irradiating system to make the target "visible" to an approaching missile by aiming microwave energy towards the target.
Here's hoping someone knows what this is.

It's a Royal Navy item so the Establishment was probably the cruiser HMS Tiger.
The full Nato stock number is 5840-99-447-0642, the 5840 indicating that it is a unit of Radar equipment.

As to what it actually did, No idea.
