Re: 10M FM - any activity these days?
I havent found the Bury article yet. I have found notes on converting the Icom and JWR, and articles on converting LC7137 based radios, I will scan in tomorrow

Re: 10M FM - any activity these days?
I made a mental note to call in on the Sunday evening BRS sked in 144.550, but it slipped my mind.
Their Archivist Steve G3OAG is a pal of mine, I should be able to tell you if he has the relevant newsletter next Sunday. Even if it's "lost" I can always reverse-engineer my rig.

Re: 10M FM - any activity these days?
144.550MHz - is that an AM sked then? I seem to recall 144.550 was made AM calling in some band plan. I have rigs crystalled/programmed for it. Only talking to myself so far.
Maybe your BRS net is FM after all, or are we 1 MHz too low? |

Re: 10M FM - any activity these days?
No, I am right.
https://www.buryradiosociety.org.uk/ And no doubt you are also right about it being an AM allocation. They will probably say they've been on there since the "Carefully tuning low to high" AM days, and they ain't moving. If amateur radio isn't a big enough anorak, they've recently teamed up with a bunch of steam railway preservation enthusiasts! I'm seriously considering joining them

Re: 10M FM - any activity these days?
Hi. the article in question if he remembers it was produced to be sold at the N.A.R.S.A rallies at Pontins Southport in the early 80's, and was a number of different coloured photocopies of A4 sheets stapled together. It covered various modification topics including, I think how to modify a "burner" for 10FM. Im beginning to wonder if Ive accidentally binned mine in a clear out

Re: 10M FM - any activity these days?
Not to worry Steve, thanks for looking anyway. Maybe Rambo's contact at Bury will come up trumps.
I should say that my own interest in this is purely at the technical / historical interest level, as I already have 10m - modified CB radios and Amateur equipment (ie, Kenwood TS50) which cover 10FM. But, it would be nice to have the info embedded in this thread for posterity since it seems hard to come by anywhere else. |

Re: 10M FM - any activity these days?
Kind of you to offer Dave, but I would prefer if you could, if possible, post it here in the thread although that would involve your having to photograph or scan it, of course.
It's not that I need the info personally, more that I would like to see it, as a little bit of technical history, made available online before it disappears altogether. I can imagine this thread eventually sparking a mini revival of 10FM activity, in the same way as the two metre thread has done. Last edited by SiriusHardware; 20th Nov 2018 at 12:50 pm. |

Re: 10M FM - any activity these days?
Great info, thanks Steve. The Raycom method looks identical to what I found in the Rotel RVC220 I mentioned earlier in the thread.
Unfortunately I was riding a rather puritanical restoration wave at the time and removed the mod to restore the radio to its original out-of-box configuration. Sorry to say, I think I threw the long, thin PCB out thinking I would never use it (probably true, as I had the TS50 by then). |

Re: 10M FM - any activity these days?
We have captured some good stuff there so thanks to all.
May I steer back to the original question? Is anyone in the UK actually doing anything on 10m FM today? Of course there will be DX openings now and again. I was hoping that there might be some club net or activity period that would allow me to test this old FM10D. It won't get very far with 10W out at best but something other than "I could hear it at the other end of the shack" would be very nice to achieve. Earlier this evening I decided to put the 10m FM idea on hold and to install the VFO project instead in my 4m Pye Whitehall. No issues to re-write the code for those frequencies. I had 70-70.5MHz tuning in 2.5kHz steps written with 10.7 IF shift and all the multipliers taken care of...but. The Whitehall in question has sat on a shelf for the last 4 years. After finding control box, power lead and speaker I applied power to be rewarded with a cloud of very smelly smoke. Looks like a Tantalum cap expired. There is no justice. Back to the FM10D for now then... Last edited by Jon_G4MDC; 21st Nov 2018 at 11:33 pm. |

Re: 10M FM - any activity these days?
Some photos of my DNT 10m conversion. No add on boards or any obvious mods on this one. Not sure how it was done. I bought it for a couple of quid many years ago at a rally.
