KLH Phono Headshell Cartridge Mounting - UK Vintage Radio Repair and Restoration Discussion Forum

Greetings and salutations
I have a KLH model 20 and 24 which have the same stock head shell. One is missing the cartridge. It appears the connector pins at the wire ends are pulled out slightly from their correct position as the head shell screw[s] attaching it to tone arm are missing. 1/4" of wires are are showing between tone arm and head shell.
What I need to know is how to disassemble this unit. Is the cartridge pushed in manually? I tried prying it delicately with no result.
Anyone know of an exploded view of this headshell?

In photo 1, it looks as though the cartridge has been glued in. Maybe with double-sided tape, as we can see something white showing on the right-hand side? The long black piece behind the cartridge slides out, giving access to the wires.

This looks like a UK built Garrard 3000 autochanger. You might try searching for the Manual which may have an exploded view of the tone arm head.

The changer is, as Edward says, a UK built 3000 in every respect except the headshell, which is very different. The UK version is of a different design, and has a central screw fixing to secure the cartridge.

The cartridge looks to be a Pickering magnetic, a type of V 15, an unusual choice for a Garrard 3000.

Possibly mounted, much like the later P mount cartridges using the pins only (although a P mount also has a fixing screw).

Pickering made many specials, including IIRC a model available for Seeburg jukeboxes where the arm has to play both sides.

The cartridge is a Pickering V15, it's a V15H / V15HB and were standard fitment for KLH systems.

It was an OEM fitment for the 3000 headshell and has a single hole fixing at the front. It takes standard V15 styli.

If you look at post 9 in this thread there are photos, including modifying a Garrard 2025TC to take one of these cartridges.

Thanks for the reference to the earlier thread, you learn something every day. It also adds to the use of Magnetic cartridges in Garrard changers.
