Default Yaesu FRG 7700 not tuning past 16.000

Hi guys,
just got one of these at a radio rally, cosmetically lovely condition, unfortunately it wont tune past 16.000 mhz, if I move the band selector further up, it displays 21.245, then at 21.000 mhz it displays 30.485 right up to the 29 Mhz setting. Down the scales it tunes in fine and good reception on 1-16 mhz. Any ideas guys?
I know a guy who dabbles with old kit, he serviced my FRG-7 but he's not available for a few weeks.
Hope you can help.

Steve

I'm sure we've had this topic before Steve.
Have a search of the other Frg7700 threads.
Sounds like a VCO problem.

Most likely this will be VCO voltages that are out of spec. The service manual for these is very good. Also I have done a few videos on YouTube of these. Very nice receiver once sorted

While waiting for my guy to have a look at my 7700, I turned it over to look through the bottom vents, I was a bit shocked to see four or five wires with plugs on flapping around disconnected! they were silver or white in colour, should I be worried?

The FRG-7700 could be supplied with the memory unit or it could be retrofitted to the
rear of the set - may explain the cables;

I did wonder if is was related to the memory module, the guy who sold me mine had two - a cosmetically clean one without the module and a scruffy one with the module attached, I reckon he took the module off mine and put it on the scruffy one to up its value.

Just got it back from being repaired, runs like a dream now, apparently it has the FM. module already installed but I couldnt tune to it before. How do I use the /fm mode on the 7700? instructions seem a little confusing.

TIA
Steve

Select FM, and turn the squelch knob anticlockwise and a loud hiss will be audible. Turn the squelch clockwise to the point where the noise (or the weaker of two signals) disappears. Set the main tuning to obtain the least noise on a signal concurrent with a
maximum S-meter reading. Apart from when you use the set with an external vhf convertor, the only FM signals you may hear will be on the CB bands (27-28 MHz).

Yeah, I picked up a couple of CB'rs I suppose its always handy to have a few more frequencies.

BTW now the 7700 is stood flat on the desk, Im finding it a bit low for my eye level. I tried. couple of doorstops, but they are a bit slippery and slide around too much. Any cheap ideas on raising the angle a bit?

The sets originally came with two extra extended feet for the front. You could replace the front feet with two round rubber doorstops, or even
