Motor mounting bushes
The motor mounting bushes on this BSR deck have gone soft. Any suggestions for replacements please?

Re: Motor mounting bushes
An American site, can't recall which at the moment, lists various Motor Mounting Bushes including those suitable for BSR decks. The site in question may be included in the 'On-line suppliers of styli, etc.' at the head of this section of the forum.

Re: Motor mounting bushes
Buy new black rubber grommets (I used to get mine from Maplins) and then stack them to the required height. You may need to use at least 2 or 3 in each stack.

Re: Motor mounting bushes
I've had success making up motor mounts from a combination of conventional grommets like these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rolson-6127...=fsclp_pl_dp_5 .
You'll only need a few from the set, but it's still generally a pretty cheap solution. Don't bolt them up too tight or you'll hear some audible motor vibration. You need to adjust the compression of the rubber so that you get decent isolation. Martin

Re: Motor mounting bushes
Are these the right size. As near as I can measure they are 13mm dia on the large part and 7.3mm high when on a flat surface. The hole is about 5mm.
They were smaller than the ones in a Garrard SP25 deck. Jim |

You can also get a set of three from Dansette.com for about £5.

Re: Motor mounting bushes
I got mine from a seller on Ebay. They work well. Ideally, they need to be of the correct density and shape to minimise motor noise, as well as the right height for the idler wheel to engage with each speed step on the motor pulley. Sorry if I'm teaching Grandmother to suck eggs!

Re: Motor mounting bushes
The American site which stocks, among other things, motor mounting bushes is www.thevoiceofmusic.com They don't specifically mention BSR or Garrard Mounts on their website, but may have suitable types available. Prices start from $1.00U.S. each, plus carriage, so are reasonable. (no connection with V.O.M. b.t.w.)

Re: Motor mounting bushes
Hi.
But them here with free postage as postage from USA makes them more expensive. Idler height can be adjusted to meet stepped pulley. Make offer of £3.99 as that is what they are selling for on his complete page. Gaz. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TURNTABLE...sAAOSwtn9a6ON1 Last edited by tracypaper; 12th Mar 2019 at 4:47 pm. |

Re: Motor mounting bushes
Thanks for that link, Gaz. Oddly enough I've not yet had any problems with motor mounting bushes on either my own Silvertone record player, or any BSR or Garrard deck I've serviced for anyone else. Even the bushes on a more than 30-years old Pioneer PL12D I recently repaired were still O.K.! I'll Bookmark the page anyway, and may order one set 'just in case!'

Re: Motor mounting bushes
I have a Garrard single play deck in a 50s Decca player and the rubber mounts were gone in that, but these were the much bigger ones which I had to source from the American voice of music site linked above, postage was over a tenner.

Re: Motor mounting bushes
Hi Gaz,
I seem to remember the rubber mounts on Collaro decks should fit, and these were available on eBay when I last purchased them, strangely in a very pale colour, not the usual black. I will try to check my purchase records on eBay to check if this seller is still doing these. Cheers, Ted. |
