Radio membership Topology
In another thread there was a comment about BVWS membership and the the BVWS being SE centric.
It seems that although the BVWS must know where members are there seems to be a reluctance to make that info public. so I thought I would try find out where membership of this forum is. Cheers Mike T

Re: Radio membership Topology
I had to choose SE because Oxfordshire is in the government SE standard region, but Oxford is actually in the South Midlands. The confusion dates back to 1974 when Oxfordshire (traditionally a Midlands county) acquired a big chunk of Berkshire (traditionally a SE county) and the bureaucrats decided it should become part of the SE.
Note that lots of forum members (probably a majority) aren't members of the BVWS. I'm not. |

Re: Radio membership Topology
What happened to Wales?
I think of my location as West England (ten miles and I'd be in Wales) though it's normally referred to as West Midlands.

Re: Radio membership Topology
That has occurred to me before now: I supect it has more to do with nobody having the time to analyse the data, rather than any ulterior motive.

Re: Radio membership Topology
Yes but presumably there are a lot of forum members, like me for instance, who are not members of the BVWS.

Re: Radio membership Topology
Yes, but the OP refers to "membership of this forum", not BVWS membership.

Re: Radio membership Topology
East (Anglia) seems to be MIA. Anyway, that's where I and a few other people on here live.

Re: Radio membership Topology
About half way down this page there is basic heat map of UK population density:
http://worldpopulationreview.com/cou...om-population/ It is reasonable to assume that a survey of the 1800 or so active forum members would produce much the same result. Alan |

Re: Radio membership Topology
You could be right Alan but I have a feeling based on active membership the the North will be over represented compared to population.
Of course Graham is right you could get an idea by going through the membership list but that would take a while if you were to differentiate for active membership. Cheers Mike T

Re: Radio membership Topology
Now I understand why you forgot about Wales and East Anglia.
Seriously though Mike, what leads you to think that membership might be weighted in favour of the North? Alan |

Re: Radio membership Topology
I live in the East Midlands and so had to select Midlands as it was nearest. The Midlands is a high population area whereas the East Midlands is not which may make my response not very useful, it all depends on the purpose of this survey.

Re: Radio membership Topology
I am officially in the east midlands but further inland closer to Sheffield and moved from the south to cut accommodation costs.

Re: Radio membership Topology
I'm another Midlander, having lived in Derby most of my life so far. I did my B.Eng at Aston University, then ended up having to return to Derby when a house in Birmingham that I was planning to move into fell through. And then my plans to become a New Age Traveller went the same way, when I got a proper job in an electronics factory .....

Re: Radio membership Topology
I suspect the same from looking at the location of Members on their posts. Of course it could simply be that we of the North Country are more vocal.

Re: Radio membership Topology
Could you add East Anglia, or at least eastern England?
