Today I used a Lucas "marinapower" 12 volt battery charger, one of a pair purchased new about 30 years ago.
One of the first regulated battery chargers that could be connected indefinitely without cooking the battery.

Today, and most other days, I used my vintage (although modern compared to a lot of things here) amplifier and speakers. I'm not sure if the Ariston tuner from 1992 which is supplying them with an audio signal from Radio 3 counts as vintage?
Amplifier - Technics SU-V7 from 1982. One from the top of the range of 9 of these superb amps, which have the discreet the current amplifier/ output stage.

Akia SR-H44 three way speakers also from 1982. Yes I know they aren't A&Rs or B&Ws, but I defy anyone with less than the hearing capability of a bat to tell the difference.

Had this on when I was out in the garage, 1977 Pioneer SX850 and CT-F9090 tape deck, the receiver is currently being put on as much as possible to try and narrow down the intermittent fault it has, so far it’s been faultless (typical!)

Today, it's been the Roberts R707 in the orchard - fed from my pantry-transmitter relaying the "Initial-D" Eurobeat soundtrack - while enjoying the sunshine and hacking-down some overgrown hedges (despite being loud the R707 isn't audible over the sound of a two-stroke-powered chainsaw).

Now, it's the Eddystone 840A tuned to what I think is Radio China in the 41-Metre band, whose propaganda-efforts are pathetic compared with the offerings of the 1970s Eastern-European-bloc.

A bit nippy in the workshop this morning, am currently using my Grandparents recently revived Valor paraffin heater.

Window open a touch, lovely blue flame and a fair whack of heat coming out, reckon my tea (placed on top) will stay warm for quite a period too.

My house is a time warp and full of pre-war vintage items still being used on a regular basis including telephones, clocks, radios, lighting, heaters. I hardly ever buy anything new if I can help it. It's a lifestyle choice I love and luckily my wife's too, the kids have to put up with it.

That is brilliant, Clive, a real time warp. Is the deco plasterwork original?

Yes, that's pretty good! But.. is the cabinet in front of a fireplace?? Surely not!

Looking at the photo, if you managed a similar house but 3 decades earlier, you could have been a real live Viz "Victorian Dad!"

Ideal set for a scene for an episode of "Poirot"!

I'm afraid not, a bit of artistic licence.

Crikey - I have a very similar table in my room! (Perhaps it goes down as the vintage piece of 'equipment' I used today. There is usually one of several books that I am reading at any one time resting on it.) I rescued it from my parents' attic.

I love the carpet!

The pattern and colour palette of the carpet is very evocative. Mr parents' house in the 1940's had a three piece suite in a very similar style. Their radio was a Marconi console model.

I hope you used proper distemper on the walls. We had that colour when I was young, about 70 years ago.

All it needs is an Aspidistra in the window in a large pot. Reminds me of my Grandma's lounge. I wasn't allowed in there,

I don't think Clive will mind me saying that he posted a photo re the frontage of his 30's house previously. Meticulously maintained and the only original one in the row he said

Mod's, I hope a little digression from the original thread is ok.
I'm really surprised more people haven't done what I've done. There are millions of 1930's semis yet hardly anyone has thought to retain the original look, or put it back. It hasn't cost me the earth, if fact many of the period items have been picked up at very modest sums. But I will admit a fair amount of time and thought has gone into whats been done.
I think it's a shame, most 1930's semis are now becoming unrecognized from their original conception, it certainly is in the town I live and my house now really stands out, I think with its charm and character, I wouldn't have it any other way!

Ooh! Be aware that some of the old pigments used in various shades of 'parlour green' paint and some wallpapers were based on arsenic compounds! If you do any refurb-work on old houses where green distemper is present then you need to be aware of the risk.

[Arsenic-based dyes and additives were also used in the manufacture of felt: hatmakers ingested enough of this from handling the felt to cause neurological disturbance - hence 'mad as a hatter']

Arsenic was banned in paint as late as the 1960's. I am pretty sure that the toxic agent in hat making was a mercury compound
