Default 7 Megohm resistor

Needed for restoration of Taylor 172A vtvm (range divider resistor). Existing component is 1% hv (1kV min) resistor approx 32mm long, 8mm diameter and now measures 8.6Mohm.
Before I resort to making a stack of 1Mohm resistors to replace, does anyone have (or know a source of) a suitable component?
TIA
Roger

Roger,
I think your simplest substitution is to buy 5pcs 2Mohm,1W,1% SMD of Vishay MMB-0207-HV/Mouser 1KV SMD resistors(D=2,2, L=6mm) for ~2.50 and solder 3 in serie plus a couple parallel and be lucky...

There is a listing on ebay for '6.8 M Ohm 1% 0.5w 3.5kV Vishay VR37'
Needless to say they are smaller than the size you have mentioned!

This from a UK seller i have used myself, for 5 Meg HV resistors.

Dave,
they are ca 3% out of nominell (not best for range divider resistor) and costs 7.2 with postage_the of me proposed are exact of value -shorter too and _I think cheaper as epay ones.

Vishay VR68 Series should do your job, RS stock them.
