Braided cable
I've just found a supplier of Braided Cable in Germany the business is called http://www.textilkabel.de he can supply any colour of cable under the rainbow (and some that aren't) in either two or three core,it is the usual type of PVC cable with a Braided cover but very good quality, my order arrived in two days so is comparable with UK post. Usual disclaimer I don't know the chap from Adam but his service is good.

Re: Recommended Component Suppliers.
Yes...and they do the "orange drop" capacitors too for a price that seems to be less than some others I could mention.
Cheers. |

Although based in the USA, these guys are great. Never had any problems with purchasing in the UK from them. |

This site is based in Germany and I've had good success with them. Jan speaks perfect English (the website is in English too). Great selection of valves and electrolytic capacitors.

Geoff Davies (Radio) has a good range of valves, components and hardware useful to vintage radio restorers. He also gets in some complete or near-complete items he sells on as "projects" as well as interesting period textbooks. No web site, but you can subscribe to his monthy lists. Re: Recommended Component Suppliers.
For new (replica) spares for GPO 200, 300 and 700-series telephones, such as cases, cords, dial centres, finger plates etc., I can wholeheartedly recommend:
http://www.gpospares.co.uk/ The chap who runs it, a Mr Ray Sutcliffe, is an absolute gentleman, and the parts I ordered were of excellent quality and arrived almost instantly. Well worthwhile if you have a nice 706 or 746 which is let down by damaged or faded cosmetic parts, or even if you just need a colour-matched line cord with a "modern" 431A plug pre-attached. When I ordered, I had to send an e-mail or phone, there's no online ordering facility per se. Nick. Last edited by Nickthedentist; 16th Feb 2012 at 5:52 pm. |

Semiconductor Supplies International are a very good supplier of obsolete Integrated Circuits, transistors, capacitors, diodes and loads more. Tel 020 8643 1126.
I purchased some germanium transistors from them a few years ago for some of my 1960's portable radios. They provide a very good service. Paul |

I used to live pretty close to this tool shop and if you email and ask perhaps even American screw thread taps.

Re: Recommended Component Suppliers.
I assume by American you mean Unified Fine (UNF) and Unified Coarse (UNC) threads?
If it's taps you're after I can recommend these suppliers:- http://www.tracytools.com/ http://www.tapdie.com/

Re: Recommended Component Suppliers.
If you need the right looking resistors and capacitors for that vintage amplifier then I can recommend the Hi Fi Collective and the Tube Amp Doctor. May be a little pricey but being a bit bigger size have the right look, and not quite so fiddly.

CP Lighting have a vast range of bulbs / lamps. Have bought some very hard to get bulbs from them twice in the last month. Prices are better than elsewhere too.

Small Batteries
Hi, recommended UK supplier:-
http://www.smallbattery.company.org.uk My Casio watch has two different batteries, both of which had expired. As 5 years ago Casio charged £15 to replace, this time I decided to replace myself, although not straightforward as a retaining cage is used, which appeared difficult to release. A local watch repairer advised he had neither in stock, but could order for around £5 each. Thus I ordered midday Thursday from the above website and they arrived early Friday. Total cost - £3.34. me on the way to the bank!. Regards - Mike |
