Default Who were R.M. Electric?

I've recently acquired a Strad 511, a most attractive and, from what I can gather, none too common, radio. Stamped on the back cover is: R.M. Electric Ltd, Gateshead. It was made around 1950. Does anyone know who these people were, and what became of them? Could the initials 'R.M.' be anything to do with Rees Mace?

Default Re: Who were R.M. Electric?

Hello,

Here is all the information that I have on the company:

RM Electric Ltd. Majestic Works, Second Avenue, Team Valley, Gateshead 11 (in 1944 & 47). Wartime utility radio makers code U25. Maker of radio chassis, battery eleiminators, power resistors, transformers, coils and chokes. Also made finished equipment, such as record players, under the “Strad” brand name. In 1956, they were acquired by Masteradio Ltd. and relocated to 21 Seaton Place, London, NW1.

I think that Rees Mace was bought by Pye Ltd, in the early 1950s.

Regards,
