Rare novelty radios web site.
From my own web site here is a selection from my collection of novelty radios dating back 40 years. Many very rare ones. ( Michelin Man, James Bond, etc)
Done in a humorous fashion...."Novelty radios, clowns of the circuit circus!" http://www.retinascope.co.uk/noveltyradios.html Richard |

Very good display Richard, the owl radio is particularly sought after.

I like it, bit of a difference to the normal, I can remember in the seventies when I was a kid, my parents brought me a radio, that you wore on your wrist like a watch, the chunky strap must have been about 2 inches across, IIRC, you used to unscrew a small silver cap on the side to insert a AA battery,
Must say, I dont know why, buy really like the turntable radio,

Brilliant collection Richard, I seem to remember the car battery and large coke bottle but don't recall any of the others.

I would love to own that car battery radio, such a novel item! Simple and fun.

Thanks guys for your kind remarks. Makes all the work of putting the
novelty radio section of my web site together worth while. Richard. |

Wow! I have seen various 'novelty' radios but this collection is great. Amazing what people will buy. Why stick to Roberts and Hacker. The early red Stilleto radio looks as if it has the same case as my, silver, Columbia telecom 1987 'phone. Is the radio 'life size'.

Re your phone. There are a number of novelty radios in the shape of phones. Some, the old upright type, others the modern shape. All use the dailing ring as the tuning. There are as many novelty phones as there are novelty radios, but I daresay you know that and may already collect them. As you say, why stick to run of the mill 'straight' radios? I do collect very old 'serious' wireless too but get much more fun out of the screwy stuff, which helps keep me young in spirit. Richard Last edited by predoodlebug; 25th Mar 2011 at 11:51 am. |
