Re: Wooden cabinet re-finishing
I use Tetrosyl 'trade spray' acrylic clear gloss lacquer, which comes in 500mL cans. You can spray acrylic over cellulose, so whether your existing lacquer is acrylic or cellulose, it ought to be safe. (If you spray cellulose over acrylic, it risks acting as a solvent and wrinkling the acrylic). It's use extensively by woodturners and gives a high gloss finish. I've also used it on 'woodies'

Re: Wooden cabinet re-finishing
Nitro is nasty stuff in terms of it's fumes, why I've avoided it all my working life!
One of the easiest finishes to apply is something like Danish oil / liberon finishing oil (as long as it has resin content). It's just wipe on, not a lot to it. It's laced with solvent so it takes a great many coats to build up a finish. Then of course you have to go through the grits/polishing compound but very glossy it will get. In effect these are just modern oil varnishes/polyurethane diluted with solvent. |
