Baird TV model identification
Hello
From memory I have drawn a rough sketch of a TV we had from approx 1962 to 1973. It was a Baird and a rental TV. To change channel a lever was moved up/down a vertical scale which would engage a motorised tuner. This would clonk round until the channel was displayed. It had radio at the top of the scale - L, T, H, and BBC, ITV in the middle. There were markings in other positions, I can't remember what these were. The volume was a thumbwheel control. The right hand side (on/off and volume) was covered by a beige type material which also hid the speaker. Does anyone know what the model number was as I have never seen one since. Thanks Mark |

I am still looking for the model number of the set in the sketch I made. Maybe it was a variant of the Ferguson golden glide system?

Baird TV identification
Hi.

On the "Vintage Monochrome TV Service Data" DVD (above) a Baird 460 series is given as manufacturer data, only circuit and chassis layout. There are both versions with FM radio and without. No motorised tuner is shown.

Unfortunately not the same set as the one we had as the brightness and contrast controls were thumbwheel types poking out of the top of the back cover.

OK with further research and after all these years I have found the model number - fairly sure its a Baird 486.
The manufacturers service data only shows the chassis layout. The channel slider is shown and the controls in all the right places as I remember it. Next question is does anyone have a picture of it? Cheers |

I remember repairing a couple of these when I first started working for Radio Rentals. If it is the set I am remembering the drive from the motor was substantial, it used a bicycle chain to link the motor to the channel changer.
