Why do you think the original transformer is faulty? What tests have you done on it?

If it is indeed faulty we'll need to know its physical size before recommending a replacement based on voltage and current requirements. No point in suggesting a transformer which won't fit in the available space.

Based on the 14-3 amplifier circuit and the spec for an EL84, electrical requirements are LT 6.3V at approx 100mA for the valve heater and pilot lamp. HT is 240V at approximately 60mA.

Think the heater requirement is wrong as the valve takes 760ma, add at least 150ma for the bulb. I would think it should be 1 amp.

Correct. Misplaced decimal point on my part.

Mains transformers are notorious for failing in these if it uses the EL 84 valve - they run too hot with hardly any ventilation and aren't really up to the job - replaced 3 in the last year !

But they are about 60 years old. They might fail due to the tone control cap being faulty if it's wired from anode to earth via the pot.

Usually get transformers off old radios etc - even when re-capped they run hot - especially the Bermuda's - the deck plinth is very close to the top of the mains transformer !

I have found the same, they often run too hot to touch. Sometimes adding an earth lead to the amp causes them to get even hotter ! They were under rated and often have leakage to the frame.
There are usually a few suitable transformers for sale on ebay fairly cheaply. I think they come from reel to reel tape recorders.
You have to check the size though as there isn't a lot of room to spare on some models and a tape recorder transformer is usually a bit bigger than the original.
Rich.

Hi Gents, these can easily be rewound, but the original transformer is vital as it is not easy to get this style of lam and bobbin any longer.
Other types are just too big to fit.
