Default Garrard 86SB Mark 2

I'v just bought a Garrard 86SB Mk 2 deck knowing the auto mechanism wasn't working but assumed that the motor etc would work.
Wonder if anyone can suggest any obvious things to check before I think of having it repaired?

Welcome. The issue you have here is very common. Do you not feel confident to remove the platter and check out the idler drive and cam/trip pawl assembly which is probably the cause of the problem? Have you yet checked the motor runs and the cartridge is OK?

Thanks Edward
First time I'v tinkered with record decks so was a bit cautious. I obtained the manual which gave me a lot more confidence - Found it needed a new belt but idler drive was working ok.
